 At
Barb and Patty's, We Value Your Health. You may have read
recently about the new trend at grocery and other food stores to eliminate
the butcher, and bring in "fresh" meats. Unfortunately, these meats are
injected with additives and preservatives. As much as 12 percent of the
package weight could consist of liquids, preservatives, tenderizers and
flavor enhancers that have been injected into the meat. This enables the
food stores to use, in some cases, lesser grades of meat and artificially
enhance the flavor. Nutritionists are also concerned with the higher level
of sodium in these products (compare an 8 oz. serving of a normal steak at
140 mg. sodium with an 8 oz. serving of enhanced steak at 580 mg. sodium),
and dietitians the fact that people with allergies should start reading the
labels on meats now, since they may be allergic to some of the ingredients
in the injected solutions. Here at Barb and
